CARING FOR YOUR GOURD BIRDHOUSE

Reapplying Protection

Your birdhouse has been sprayed with Rust-oleum Painters Touch 2x Ultacover. They are sprayed with either Gloss Clear or Matte Clear. It is recommended re-coating once a year.

Where To Hang Your Gourd

Hang your gourd birdhouse outdoors in early spring before the birds arrive. Attach it to a post or tree with plenty of space between houses., or under overhang of house. Position the house with the opening away from prevailing winds. Familiarize yourself with the habits of the type of bird(s) you are trying to attract as they may have different preferences regarding nesting. At the end of the season, clean out the old nest material and store your birdhouse in a dry spot. If properly preserved and stored in the off season, it may last for years.

What Birds Will Use Your Gourd Birdhouse?

Gourds make fine homes for several varieties of cavity nesters. Some birds you could attract include bluebirds, swallows, chickadees, wrens, woodpeckers, great crested flycatchers, titmice, screech owls, kestrels and nuthatches.
